North Devon

The North Devon coastline is spectacular and Buttercombe is ideally situated not only for the wonderful beaches at Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton; but also for walking the rugged coast running eastwards from Morte Point towards the Bristol Channel. We are only 3 miles from Woolacombe beach and Ilfracombe with it’s lively harbour, from where boat trips run to Lundy Island. There are lots of attractions for children from “The Big Sheep” to “Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park".

Barnstaple, 10 miles away, provides excellent shopping and the Pannier Market has interesting bargains and yummy local produce on Tuesdays and Fridays.

North Devon offers a host of beautiful seaside villages to explore, such as Clovelly, Lynmouth, Croyde, Instow and Appledore.

For the more adventurous there is a host of water-sports from surfing to kite -surfing and canoeing. Instow has a great sailing club where the kids can learn to sail and the Tarka trail which runs from Torrington all the way through to Instow and on to Braunton. For younger children there are fantastic theme parks like the Wildlife and Dinosaur Park at Combe Martin, The Big Sheep, Exmoor Zoo and The Milky Way with loads of scary rides. North Devon also has many beautiful gardens like the ones at RHS Rosemoor, Arlington Court, a National Trust property, Marwood Hill, Docton Mill and the amazing gardens incorporating an art and sculpture park at Broomhill just outside Barnstaple.

Baggy Point Croyde

North Devon has some wonderful golf courses with The Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! being the oldest links course in the UK and Saunton Sands a championship course only 7 miles away. Just up the road at Willingcote there is a family golf course and many more in the area.

North Devon is an outward-bound paradise for all activities; from surfing, kiting and wind-surfing, to long challenging walks on Exmoor to gentle strolls along the beach. There is sailing at Instow and canoeing along the Taw river plus horse riding on Puttsborough beach.

Morte Point

There are all the major supermarkets within 3 miles. They will deliver, so you can pre-order and have the cottage fully stocked for when you arrive.

The Queens theatre in Barnstaple and the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe have many great shows throughout the year while the North Devon Festival in June is famous for hosting top names and fringe theatre throughout the region.

This festival also includes the famous music festival on Croyde beach - Ocean Fest! Which will have top bands from around the world.
