Around Buttercombe Cottage Holidays
We’ve been around for a while! Over the front door of The Barton there is a date of 1081.
Although we are not sure when the present house was built, there certainly has been a farm on this site for many centuries - a Barton is a manor farm - the largest in the parish. Once it occupied over 700 acres from Willingcott in the west, where the present 18 hole golf course is situated to the Foxhunters Pub at the bottom of the old lane by the A361.
Today, we have a more modest 17 acres, but even so, they are a delight to walk in with woodland tracks where you may see badgers and red deer; and meadows where we have sheep and a friendly horse called Benson.
As you can see, we also have three lively Springer spaniels - Bella, Bobby and Braveheart - who love playing with children.
The village of West Down is only a mile away with an excellent shop, cafe and pub.
